The Articulate ‘Missing Cat’ Poster
We never try to hide the fact that working in the games industry is just about the most fun thing you can ever do for a living.
Obviously we’ll gloss over the paperwork bit, and the chasing invoices bit, and the trying to sort licenses for hundreds of brands bit, and the ‘what do you mean: “a whole container-load of Articulate Christmas games has been inadvertently re-routed to Gdansk, and now won’t reach the shops until December 29th?!?”’ bit.
But in general, it’s a lot of fun.
One of the services of this blog is to provide little insights into an industry, so here’s a post that covers an ABSOLUTELY TYPICAL DAY* in the Drumond Park offices. Specifically, the day we put together the silly little Articulate ‘missing cat’ poster, which ended up going viral all over the social media place.
So here are your important insights. Or it could just be an excuse to post some cute cat pictures.
- Part 1
We spend ages finding loads of stock images of cats. Somebody is assigned the important job of deciding which cat would be best.
- Part 2
We pick a phone number. Did you know that the phone authorities set aside specific realistic-looking but dummy numbers for use in advertising, TV dramas etc? Essentially, that’s the area code 01632. That way, you don’t risk swamping some random elderly lady in Basildon with hundreds of nuisance phone calls.
We ring the number, just in case. Then ring it seven or eight times more, just in case case.
- Part 3
We collate feedback from the individual cat photos. The feedback looks something like this:
>>POSSIBLE. GOOD-LOOKING CAT.
>>POSSIBLE. MAYBE A BIT TOO SAD/CUTE?
>>REJECT. LOOKS TOO UNENTHUSIASTIC.
>>REJECT. LOOKS LIKE WOULD NEVER GET LOST IN A BILLION YEARS.
>>MIGHT WORK FOR CHRISTMAS ADS BUT NO.
>>ABSOLUTE REJECT, DO NOT WANT STRANGELY CONTORTED CAT.
>>STOP WASTING MY TIME, THIS WILL TERRIFY THE CHILDREN.
- Part 4
Somebody suggests ‘Jess’ as the contact name, which is absolutely perfect.
*The day may not be TOTALLY typical.
